Managing Health Care as a Digital Nomad and Slow Traveler

Living as a digital nomad and frequent traveler often presents unique challenges, particularly when it comes to managing health care. I also consider myself a slow traveler.

Over the years, I’ve developed a system that caters to both my day-to-day wellness needs and unexpected situations while traveling. My approach combines practical healthcare solutions, a commitment to physical fitness, mental and spiritual well-being, and a lifestyle designed for balance and ease.

Health Insurance and Similar Services

For regular, ongoing healthcare needs, I rely on a health-sharing ministry called Medi-share. This program works incredibly well as a cost-effective and community-oriented alternative to traditional insurance.

When I’m traveling, I use Genki, an international health care plan that provides coverage for a wide range of situations, including accidents, emergency medical issues, and even pregnancy care and child delivery. Having this coverage gives me peace of mind, knowing that I’m prepared for whatever might happen, such as hospitalization or an air evacuation.

Staying Active and Being Preventative

I’m also pretty active and prioritize physical fitness as part of my healthcare routine. My lifestyle includes regular outdoor activities like walking, running, hiking, and swimming, along with strength training sessions at the gym. Staying active keeps my body strong and resilient, which is important when frequently moving between time zones and climates.

I also don’t engage in risky behaviors. I’m not a drinker or smoker and limit my social circle to calm, Godly folks not into violent or extreme, dangerous lifestyles.

Minding My Mental Health

Caring for my mental health is just as important, and I have embraced counseling and spiritual coaching over the years. At one point, I worked with two therapists simultaneously to address various areas of my life.

Even now, I continue with a spiritual coach who provides guidance and support. Additionally, I foster community and connection through my church and online groups, participating in Bible studies and prayer gatherings that nourish my soul and provide a sense of belonging.

Managing Stress

Stress management is also an integral part of my healthcare strategy. I’ve intentionally set up my life to be as leisurely and flexible as possible. I recently moved to a tropical island, where island time prevents you from overloading your schedule. Not to mention, the views here are great and connecting to nature is a great stress reliever.

By generating passive income through real estate investments and monetizing my online presence, I’m able to create space in my days for rest, relaxation, and connection with nature and loved ones. This intentional design allows me to focus on what truly matters while avoiding burnout.

Exploring Medical Tourism

I plan to incorporate medical tourism into my self-care routine, especially for low-risk cosmetic procedures that can enhance my overall well-being. Services like teeth cleaning, whitening, microblading for my eyebrows, and spa treatments such as massages and hydrotherapy are much more affordable in certain countries while maintaining high-quality standards.

Since I am in the process of purchasing property in the Dominican Republic, I envision utilizing these services during my frequent stays there. The country offers a variety of reputable clinics and wellness centers that make it a convenient choice for these procedures.

Additionally, I’ve learned that places like Colombia, Mexico, and Turkey are renowned for their thriving medical tourism industries. They provide access to world-class services at significantly lower costs compared to many other regions.

Exploring these options allows me to save money and allows me to immerse myself in different cultures during my trips. By carefully researching providers and balancing affordability with excellent care, medical tourism becomes a practical and fulfilling way to invest in my health and personal upkeep.

Biblical Meditation

Finally, one of the most impactful ways I manage my health is through Biblical meditation. Scripture holds countless promises of divine health and wholeness for God’s children, and I consistently meditate on these truths. I even developed a personalized prayer that addresses my physical and mental health as well as my appearance. If you’re part of my Patreon community, you’ll have access to this prayer along with exclusive resources and content designed to support your well-being.

By combining these approaches, I’ve created a holistic and sustainable system for managing my health as a digital nomad.
