Carrie Olsen’s voice acting talent, ferocious marketing and networking techniques, combined with extensive training and study, has landed her voiceover jobs with brands like Kmart, Taco Bell, Bank of America, REI and others. As a result, she makes a full-time living off of voice-acting! (I know this is a legit hustle, because my kids make money in voice acting as well)

Today, Carrie wants to tell us about her AWESOME life as a voice actress and give us tips on getting started in voice acting.

Show Summary:

  • After having her first child, Carrie knew that she needed something more flexible to suit her new mommyhood
  • She had several podcasts with her husband and had also narrated eLearning videos
  • She was listening to a podcast on the way to work and heard a voiceover coach offer her services
  • Carrie took advantage right away and booked a paying job within her first three coaching sessions and the rest is history

What You’ll Learn:

  • Why training is so essential to start landing voice-acting gigs
  • The difference between the traditional and non-traditional trajectory to voice acting success
  • Why you don’t need the best voice in the world to get started
  • Why marketing, networking outreach matters
  • When it’s time to get an agent and why you don’t necessarily need one to get started in voice-acting
  • The bare bones equipment you can use to start your voice acting career
  • Voiceover work can be more convenient than on-screen work with the same pay (or better!)
