Your retirement savings plan could ruin your career and your livelihood. If you are saving for retirement, you should stop now. Don’t check with your financial advisor or any of the mainstream financial pundits. Just do it.
Well, the answer maybe not be a satisfactory one but it’s something we all need to at least think about. Did you ever wonder why it seems like most people you know wait years for retirement and then keel over shortly into their long-awaited cessation of obligatory labor. I don’t have exact numbers or stats on this phenomenon but antidotally it’s a scenario we are all familiar with.
I don’t think humans were ever meant to retire. Again, this is my own opinion. I mean, if you are doing what you are passionate about, then why would you want to stop? The problem is that most people are not living a passionate, purpose-filled life. They are simply trading dollars for hours- making a living instead of a life.
For this reason, I am no longer saving for retirement. I am saving for financial independence. This is a place where you are not obligated to work for money, but instead work to bring our your gifts and natural talents. I am working towards a greater goal: freedom to be me and purpose fulfillment in life. I’m still saving money, but it’s not for retirement anymore. I actually plan to do what I love until I leave this earth.
How about you?
