11 Ways to Make an Extra $1,000 a Month

Finding ways to make an extra $1,000 a month can help you reach financial goals like getting out of debt, saving for a huge milestone or just putting enough money away for a rainy day.

If you’ve never looked for a side-hustle before, be prepared to do some research and experimenting. In the end, you’ll have to find a way to earn extra money that suits your lifestyle, habits and available resources like time and money.

Here are some great ideas you can start right away:

1) Drive with Uber

Driving with Uber is a great way to add extra money to your life. You can work when you like and cash out up to 5x a day when you sign up for Instant Pay with your debit card. You can work one day and get paid the same day!

These payments can add up quickly and be a main source of income or a side-hustle to supplement other financial goals you may have. Sign up to drive with Uber here.

No car?

No problem!

You can deliver with Uber eats with a bike, scooter or a car if you have one. This might be a good option if you prefer not to deal with people or don’t yet have access to a car.

Sign up to deliver with Uber Eats here.

2) Become an AirBnB Host

I’ve consistently made $500 or more each month by hosting AirBnb guests and short-term renters in our extra bedrooms. I’ve even heard of people finding permanent roommates via AirBnb to help pay their mortgage or rent and free up money for other financial goals.

No extra space?

No problem!

You can actually earn money as an AirBnb host without even owning property.Check out this article on AirBnb rental arbitrage.

3) Teach English on Line with VIP KID

VID KID says teachers can earn $14-$22 per hour teaching English online. For people who can work 10-20 hours a week from the comfort of their own home, it won’t be hard to make $1,000 to $2,000 a month in extra income.

You can sign up to become a teacher with VIP KID here.

4) Freelance Writing

I routinely earn $2,000-$3,000 per month with my freelance writing hustle. I’ve also had $5,000 and $6,000 months working part-time as a freelance writer. I’ve got buddies in the freelance writing field that report earning over $10,000 per month as a freelance writer!

As you can see, freelance writing is a side-hustle should be a serious consideration for you if you want to earn an extra $1,000 a month or more.

5) Virtual Assistant

I hire virtual assistants in many aspects of my business: to help with creating graphics, setting up blog posts and other marketing-related tasks. This work can be done from anywhere — your home, a co-working space or the beach.

You can become a virtual assistant that specializes in certain aspects of online business: product launches, project management, social media management and more. As online businesses proliferate, this side husting is becoming more and more in demand.

If you want to learn more about becoming a virtual assistant, Gina Horkey has a ton of resources to get you started like this one: 30 Days to Virtual Assistant Success.

6) Social Media Manager

This is another flexible way to earn money. Social media managers can specialize in certain areas like Facebook ads, Instagram management or even Pinterest graphics and scheduling.

One popular social media platform has an especially large demand for virtual assistants: Pinterest. In fact, if you go to a job search engine like Indeed.com and enter “Pinterest” as a keyword, you’ll see thousands of results:

7) Start a Blog

While starting a blog is no get-rich-quick plan, efforts can snowball into a nice, passive source of income. I earn anywhere from $500-$1,000 a  month or more due to my blogging efforts. This income comes from affiliate marketing, ad network income and product sales from eBooks and eCourses.

A blog can also be a great tool for accountability. I wrote an article on 17 People that blogged themselves out of debt. Some bloggers made great income from their blog or just updated the world on their financial progress or both.

8) Write Short Stories for Amazon

I’ve a got a friend who earns $500 per month in passive income with eBooks. How?

She writes short, romance stories for Amazon. I made just over $100 last month selling my own eBook on Amazon.com which was not a fiction book but rather a nonfiction book on getting out of debt. So many genres can help your earn an extra $1,000 a month — not just fiction.

She earns money with eBooks on a consistent basis by doing the work once, then letting her titles hang out on Amazon for shoppers who are looking for the kind of stories she writes.

She estimates it can take 24-30 hours of work to get a title up and active on Amazon.com. Once it’s done, it’s done and continually making money for her!

9) Become a Proofreader

Have you ever thought of becoming a proofreader? Yes, it’s another writing-related profession, but it’s one worth exploring if you have an eye for detail and like to be your own boss.

As a freelance writer, I have worked with many editors, proofreaders, and fact-checkers for a large part of my work. These freelance proofreaders are in high demand and there’s tons of growing opportunity as online content proliferates at break-neck speed.

10) Sell Arts and Crafts on Etsy

Etsy sellers were once a strange group of folks who were relegated to cat-loving knitters who might have made a few pennies a month. But now?

There are Etsy sellers literally making millions of dollars selling unique, artisan items not found in other marketplaces.

Want to sell your creations on Etsy? Check out this resource on starting an Etsy store and  becoming a successful Etsy seller.

11) Sell Old Junk on eBay & Craigslist

You can sell things around the house and earn extra money by selling it. I know other people that actually go to thrift stores and estate sales to find items to sell.

The key is finding the best items that sell well on eBay or Craiglist then keep a watchful eye on the internets or other second-hand stores to buy them at rock bottom prices.

Here’s a resource that can help you get started selling items for profit on eBay.
